Discover the biodiversity of the coastline on The Derrynane Seashore Nature Trail, a 1.2 km loop that takes you along the Kerry Way Trail.
The first of its kind in Ireland, the trail was created, written, photographed and filmed by Vincent Hyland, a multi-award winning digital media professional, artist, filmmaker, writer, scientist and musician. His love for our coastal environment is well known beyond our county’s borders.
His work also included the development of an app which will guide you through the trail, highlighting Derrynane’s underwater marine life, helping you to identify seabird, songbird and dolphin audio, and introducing you to the other flora and fauna that call the Derrynane coast their home, including butterflies, birds, amphibians, whales, and the rare and protected Kerry Lily wildflower.
During your stay our team will provide with an app you can Download.

Lambs Head
This walk takes you right out to Lambs Head pier through a wild, rugged & rocky coastline characteristic of the Wild Atlantic Way. On your way you’ll see Eaglerock Equestrian Centre, the ship house, and you may even spot diving seabirds and dolphins.
Derrynane Mass Loop
At 6.3 km in length, this trail will treat you to some breathtaking views of Derrynane. The walk is steeped in history, having been the route taken by the people of the Caherdaniel parish to attend Mass at “Mass Rock” during 17th century penal times. At this time, Catholics were banned from celebrating Mass until Daniel O’ Connell achieved Catholic emancipation for the Irish.
The loop will take you across Derrynane beach and through woodland before ascending the hills to reveal a beautiful panorama of Caherdaniel.
